If It's Friday, Then It Must Be Guangzhou

Xiulan led us through the Kunming Airport this morning. We met some nice young people along the way. One gift shop clerk near our gate, anxious to practice his English, asked me to explain the difference between, "Hello, pleased to meet you," and "What's up?". I spent 20 yuan on 20 minutes in a massage chair, making it the best $3 I've ever spent. Heather and I both felt a slight twinge as we lifted off, taking Man Li from her native home.

For the flight, God smiled on us and granted an empty seat in our row, allowing us to stretch out for our first flight with a child. Once again, Ella was great. Sure, she fussed a bit, but she ate some rice and carrots from our in-flight mystery meal, and then fell asleep. Our new guide, Peter, met us just outside of baggage pickup. About 30 minutes into the 40 minute drive from the airport, we realized that we left without claiming our stroller. So, it appears that we're still getting the hang of some things.

Tomorrow morning is Ella's medical physical at the U.S. Consulate. Here is one photo of our newest international traveler, and one of our current view at the White Swan.

  1. A sleeping angel! Not sure which I like more...this picture, or the giggle video! Safe travels, Meyer family.

  2. Yes, but think of what you both can offer to your darling Daughter that she could never dream of, a loving Mother and Father and family waiting for her. Enjoy each minute. Love Mom and Dad

  4. What a sweet, beautiful little angel. Couldn't you just sit and watch her sleep for hours? Leaving Kunming was another emotional experience for us also. By that point, we had all bonded so well, that it did not feel like we were "leaving behind" as much as "starting a new Life together" as a family. Love is such a wonderful thing and it is amazing how quickly we are able to fall in love with such a precious little soul. The love that we have for our children is so unconditional and pure...a true gift from God. The rest of the journey should be easier. There is a great shop called A Gift from China in GZ. It is several blocks from the White Swan...definitely a quick walk. The shop carrys wonderful items of very nice quality. It was my favorite shop. If you decide to go, make sure that you talk to someone in there about their business plan. It is a great charitable organization that raises money to teach children, in the orphanages, a trade, so that they someday will be able to earn a living when they are out on their own. Enjoy every second of your journey, even the most stressful day is still a great day in the big picture of Life.
    Love,

  6. Well, you have just completed your Saturday in Guangzhou and I can't wait to read the next installment about the physical (how much does she weigh?) and your Shamian Island adventures. Like many of the people you will meet in China, I give you a big thumbs up and I agree that she is indeed a "lucky baby"!
